Region 15 Cross Country Junior Olympics

Directions:  The course is located just east of Las Vegas High School at Hollywood near East Sahara.  From I-95 you can take the East Charleston exit, go east on to Charleston and proceed passed Lamb, passed Nellis to Hollywood and turn right.   Proceed to E. Sahara, turn right (the only way you can go) and park in the school parking lot.  If unavailable, you may park on the street.  The entrance to the course itself is across Hollywood at the north end of the school.

Course:  This challenging hilly course on Bureau of Land Management land is representative of Nevada - all rough dirt (includinng rocks).  Conditions may change drastically if it rains, making the course muddy particularly for the latter divisions.   There will be no restrictions on spikes.  The course will be well marked and monitored by course marshals.  Detailed maps will be provided to coaches in their packets and will be posted at the course.  NO PARKING will be allowed at the site.

Schedule:  A course walk-through will take place at 8 a.m.  First races goes at 9 a.m. starting with the Bantam Girls division and will alternate girl/boy from youngest to oldest.  Divisions may be combined depending on numbers of competitors.

    Midget Girls/Boys        4 Kilometers
    Youth Girls/Boys           4 Kilometers
    Intermediate/Boys         5 Kilometers
    Young Men/Women       5 Kilometers

Divisions:

Scoring:  Scoring follows USATF rule number 245.3e.  Individuals finishing in the top 20 who are also members of qualifying teams are not displaced so that additional finishers beyond 20th may not advance.  Any team may advance if it has 5 or more individuals placing in the top 20 in the Regional meet.  If any team has 5 or more runners in the top 20 the team may advance.

Advancement:  Athletes may advance to the National Junior Olympics by either qualifying as a top 20 individual finisher or by being a part of a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place team.  The USATF National Cross Country Junior Olympics will be held on December 9 in Reno, Nevada.  Information will be available to nationals qualifers at the meet.   There will be no waivers to the Nationals from the regional meet.

Awards:  Although the top 20 individuals qualify to advance, only the top 15 individuals will be awarded medals (1st-Gold, 2nd-Silver, 3rd-10th-Bronze) per USATF rules.  The top 3 teams in each division will advance and be awarded team trophies.
